THE SSDC STORY

Perform, celebrate, grow

Picture
Meet Steve and Nia. He’s an IT and AV guy and she works in children’s mental health.
In their home life they have always been devoted to their two daughters, Marisa and Katrina, and their interests. For Nia, that meant many years volunteering at school, choirs, fundraisers and as a Guider with Sparks, Brownies and Guides, planning many camps and big events for kids. It also meant many years working behind the scenes in community youth theatre making props, working on costumes and producing many full-scale productions. Luckily Steve was always a big help in these endeavours!
As parents of a competitive dancer, they became interested in dance and even ran a dance photography company for 8 years learning even more about the wonderful world of dance.
In 2012, they realized that together, they possessed the ideal skill-set to run a competition of their own. Encouraged by friends and family they brought Shooting Stars Dance Competition to life in 2013 for the debut season in 2014!
Years later, they’ve learned so much and they are very proud to be sticking to the criteria they laid out for themselves while dreaming up SSDC at the kitchen table back in 2012!
We hope you’ll appreciate the things that make Shooting Stars Dance Competition special.
